All of the finishes we offer are modern catalyzed urethanes, providing ultimate stability and protection.
Colors
Our standard transparent finishes are available in a wide variety of colors and tints, including:
- Clear
- Lemon Yellow
- Amber
- Medium Brown
- Dark Mission Brown
- Black
- Cordovan
- Purple
- Red
- Green
- Aqua
- Blue
- Navy Blue
Though we specialize in transparent finishes, we also offer opaque finishes. Please contact us for specific coloration options on opaque finishes.
Sheen
All of our finish options are available in three different sheens: Satin, Medium Gloss, and High Gloss. Our default finishing practice is to use satin for the back of the neck and medium gloss for the body and headstock.
Grain Fill
Our standard practice is to grain-fill all woods, resulting in a smooth, uniform surface finish. When using a satin finish, we can omit this upon request, which will leave the surface with the natural wood texture and imperfections. Grain fill cannot be omitted for medium or high gloss finishes.
Open-grain woods – such as ash or limba – can be accentuated by use of colorized grain fill. Please contact us for specific options regarding colorized grain fill.
Styles
In addition to basic single-color finishes, we are also experienced in “burst” type finishes. The neck, headstock, and body can each be independently finished with different colors, styles, and/or sheens. For bound bodies, different colors and/or styles may be chosen for each section that is separated by binding, but only with the same sheen.
Though we do not yet have as much experience with styles such as fades, we are always open to trying them.
Fretboards
Maple fretboards must be finished, using any of our options. Other fretboard woods are normally left unfinished, being oil-conditioned instead. However, we can finish these in the same manner as maple upon request.
