Variable Guitars is an independent, one-man shop located in northeast Ohio. We produce custom electric solid-body instruments.

A core factor driving us is a desire to make custom instruments more accessible by being more affordable. We believe that those with more modest budgets shouldn’t be stuck with only off-the-shelf options, and that those with higher budgets shouldn’t be limited to just picking from a preset list of options, no matter how expansive that may be.

We accomplish our goal in part by blending modern CNC manufacturing with traditional handcrafting, with our necks perfectly exhibiting this balance of techniques. They are carved to final shape entirely by hand, but roughed by conventional power tools guided by CNC-produced templates, and all fret slotting and inlay cutting is done directly via CNC. This allows us to economically provide very high accuracy where needed, while still providing that personal touch elsewhere.
